No matter who you are, where you live or what kind of car you drive, chances are you’re going to need to eat out every once in a while.  If you’re on the path to a healthier lifestyle (I don’t want to say “on a diet” because I hate the word “diet” and all it represents!), the thought of dining out can strike fear in your heart.  And well, since I’m not one to sugarcoat things, there’s good reason to be afraid.  Most restaurant and fast food dishes will clear out your wallet just as effectively as they bust out your waistline.  But there are ways to minimize the damage and stay on track with your nutrition as you dine out- whether it be a sit down dinner at a restaurant or in a rush through a fast food drive-thru lane.

Here are my five top tips for staying on track while dining out…

The best plan of action is always preparation! Go in as an informed consumer (not a blissfully ignorant diner), know what the healthiest options are and don’t be ashamed to make special requests.  Otherwise, you may wind up eating an entire day’s worth of calories in just one meal. And that’s just plain cray cray.
